The Role
Anticipated Start Date – Fall 2020
The Senior Field Engineer’s responsibilities include managing different parts of construction projects, supervising crew members, preparing estimates for time and material costs, completing quality assurance, observing health and safety standards, and compiling reports for different stakeholders. The Senior Field Engineer ensures safety is a prime value that cannot be compromised and ensures all work is performed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and standards. The incumbent will have the authority to hold Contractors to account when standards are not adhered with and interacts with employees at all levels at the construction site. The Senior Field Engineer should have a strong Civil work background to support the earthworks, road construction and infrastructures installation work. The Senior Field Engineer is responsible for the activities and efficiency of contractors for the satisfactory execution of the work under his supervision. He has the responsibility to build and maintain an organization that can effectively provide the necessary staking, testing and inspection to ensure the project is constructed according to the plans and specifications. The Senior Field Engineer should familiarize himself rapidly with the plans, specifications, and amendments to effectively administer the work.
Your Responsibilities
Oversight accountability for the overall areas of construction from start to finish in order to confirm the respect of the engineering specifications, the project schedule, safety, and budget are being adhered to by Contractors.
- Ensure the Contractor’s compliance with the Contract Documents.
- Represent the Owner’s Team at the Construction Site on matters such as project quality, cost, schedule, and standards.
- Ensure construction methods and procedures for all areas of the project are maintained based on the Project Management Team’s expectations and project guidelines.
- Promote and demonstrate IAMGOLD values at all times.
- Ensure ongoing communication with internal and external stakeholders related to the progress of construction activities.
- Site Safety Monitoring wherein the monitoring activities, meetings, reviews, safety violations, rectification measures, and accident reports are included in the Monthly Progress Report.
- Engages in risk process and ensures any risks are identified and mitigation plan is put in place and monitored.
Technical leadership of field engineering effort with decision making over design challenges occurring during the construction phase.
- Review site based engineering design work by EPCM Contractor and other contractors.
- Provide technical advice and suggestions for improvement on particular issues.
- Support the decision making process for site engineering changes and site instructions. Manages changes as required and initiates scope management process where required as well as monitoring and maintaining punch list items
- Interface with EPCM Contractor representatives responsible for the engineering effort namely the Engineering Manager and the Site Resident Engineer.
- Consult and interact with internal stakeholders to ensure product and critical to satisfaction parameters are maintained.

- Engineering degree in a relevant field.
- Project management certification is an asset.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Experience with both Owner Team organization and EPCM organizations on major capital projects is an asset.
- Experience in the mining/natural resource industry is required.
- Knowledge, skill and ability to demonstrate in the workplace sound supervisory principles, practices and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Strong ability to influence and negotiate.
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees.
